A House of Peace in the Heart of Lamu
The story of Beytsalaam began more than a decade ago with a simple idea: to create a home where one could find peace, comfort, and a moment of escape from the outside world.
Originally built as a private holiday home for its owners, Beytsalaam began with just four rooms. It was a place to retreat, unwind, and enjoy the unique beauty of Lamu, an island renowned for its rich Swahili heritage, timeless architecture, and peaceful way of life.
Over time, this private home grew into something more. As guests discovered the charm of the property and the experience of staying in Lamu, the owners opened their doors to welcome travellers seeking a place that felt personal, warm, and welcoming. What began as a family holiday home gradually evolved into the hospitality destination known today as Beytsalaam Hotel.
What Beytsalaam Means
The name Beytsalaam reflects the very essence of this journey. Inspired by Arabic, it means “House of Peace” — a name that captures the spirit of the home and the experience we aspire to offer every guest. More than simply a place to stay, Beytsalaam represents a sense of calm, belonging, and the comfort of feeling at home, even when far away from your own.
From Four Rooms to Twelve
Over the years, our humble beginnings have grown into a hospitality establishment offering 12 rooms, including apartments, with plans for further expansion. While our spaces and offerings continue to evolve, our founding spirit remains unchanged: to welcome every guest with warmth, provide a comfortable retreat, and create an experience that reflects the beauty and character of Lamu.
Looking to the Future
Today, Beytsalaam stands as a testament to how a simple family home can grow into something shared with the world. Our journey continues to be guided by the same values that inspired its beginnings — peace, hospitality, and a genuine appreciation for the people who walk through our doors.
As we look towards the future, we remain committed to growing without losing sight of what makes Beytsalaam special: the feeling of home, the tranquillity of Lamu, and the belief that true hospitality begins with making people feel welcome.
